2024 — A Laptop on the Dirt
In August 2024, we landed in Vientiane. Sapphavisa Stadium was smaller than in photos, the outfield dirt rough. Players trained twice daily under a blazing sun, sharing bats and gloves in turns. I carried an old laptop, logging on-base percentage and error rates the way Billy Beane trusted numbers over scouts — the fewer resources a team had, the more honestly its numbers spoke.
I learned Lao numbers and baseball terms alongside the players, and met Mr. Je, the head coach who told of teaching catch in a parking lot in 2012 with not one baseball to spare.

2025 — A Broom, a Voice, and a Shared Field
In June 2025, ahead of the Southeast Asian Games, Thailand, Singapore, and Laos gathered in Vientiane for a crucial international evaluation series. Returning to the field, my mission expanded far beyond data. I served as a vital bridge between the three nations—translating between coaches and umpires, guiding visiting delegations through local logistics, and breaking language barriers under the sweltering sun.
Behind the scenes, no task was too small. Long before the first pitch of each match, I picked up a broom to clear debris, level the rough dirt, and improve the field environment for the athletes. As players from competing nations shared high-fives on the ground we had prepped together, I learned a core truth of sports management: true leadership begins with humble hands, serving from the ground up to build a stage of dignity and respect.

2026 — A Rulebook, a Whiteboard, and the First Pitch
Back in Korea, word came that the Asian Games trip had fallen through. But I decided: if the big stage was closed, we would build a new stage ourselves. I studied the official WBSC and BFA sanctioning rules—membership checks, applications, eligibility confirmation, and federation signatures. Complicated, but far from impossible.
I recruited underclassmen into a volunteer corps—a designer, a video editor, and a spreadsheet whiz. "We are not just building a tournament," we wrote on our whiteboard, "we are building a stage." Over the winter, we approached a retired KBO umpire and a physical therapist, both of whom were deeply moved after watching training footage from Laos and agreed to join us as professional mentors.
All spring, the team refined the official paperwork. In June, we finalized our proposal: the Southeast Asia Dream Cup, hosted at Sapphavisa Stadium and organized by the LBSF. Each cleared document pulled me back to that dirt field in 2024. By July, Mongolia confirmed their participation, reaching the minimum requirement of three competing nations alongside Laos.
Through an ongoing global crowdfunding campaign, we have been driving a growing movement. Posters and videos created through sleepless nights spread online, pushing donations toward $200,000—starting with small gifts from friends and growing into support from strangers following a press interview with the Korean Embassy. Three KBO/KBSA umpires, a trainer, and a physical therapist joined as talent donors, while Laos's Ministry of Education and Sports and the Korean Embassy provided official institutional backing.
